VAT returns in Poland: JPK_V7 explained

In Poland the VAT return is filed together with the transaction records in one electronic file, JPK_V7M for monthly filers and JPK_V7K for quarterly filers.

General information only, not tax advice. Rules change, so check the official sources at the bottom of this page before you act.

The obligation

VAT return filed as part of the JPK_V7 file (JPK_V7M monthly, JPK_V7K quarterly)

Who must file

VAT taxpayers in Poland. Small taxpayers may file quarterly, including those who choose the cash accounting method.

How it works

Collect VAT data from the ERP for the period → Map tax codes to the return lines → Reconcile to the ledgers and flag differences → Review and approve → File through the official channel

Key dates for Poland

  1. 25th of the next month
Monthly filing. If the 25th is a Saturday or non-working day, the deadline moves to the next working day
  2. 25th after the quarter
Quarterly filing and payment of the tax for the quarter
  3. Months 1 and 2 of a quarter
Quarterly filers still complete the records part for the first two months
  4. Electronic only
The file is signed and sent electronically, for example with a trusted profile

What the return contains

The file has two parts: the records of sales and purchases, and the return itself. Both are sent together, so the return must agree with the records.

What your ERP has to deliver

Taxera needs your sales and purchase VAT data by tax code, company code and period, with every tax code mapped to the right line of the return. Figures must tie back to the ledgers before the return is sent.

Practical insights

  • Because records and return travel in one file, errors in either one show up together.
  • Quarterly filers still need clean records every month.

Common pitfalls

  • Treating the records and the return as separate tasks.
  • Forgetting that quarterly filers owe the records for the first two months.
